Social Change Movement
John Lennon was a very strong anti-war advocate. He was specifically against U.S. and British involvement in Vietnam. He wanted a world without violence which is evident in his music. He held many concerts for peace and one tome held a concert to free a man from prison. John Sinclair was a leader of the white panthers who was sent to prison for selling marijuana to cops. John Lennon, along with other peace advocates such as Bobby Seale, held a concert to raise awareness and Sinclair was eventually released. Lennon also created his own imaginary country called Nutopia where all people were free and there were no wars or violence. He did this to raise people’s awareness of how peaceful the world could be if we all stopped fighting.

Purpose
Lennon was born in the middle of a German air raid in 1940. When he was young his father was gone very often since he was a merchant marine so he lived with his mother. However family disputes led his aunt to adopt him and raise him with her husband. This could be where Lennon developed a dislike for violence. He had a rough early childhood because of family issues, not physical violence but it was emotionally hard. When Lennon was in his teens he developed a love for music. He dropped out of college in his last year to perform in bands at British clubs. Later in his life he used his music to express his ideals of a perfect world in songs like Imagine, and Give Peace a Chance.

Occupation
John Lennon was a member of the mega hit band The Beatles. He later became more of a solo artist making songs with his second wife, Yoko Ono. He had a very close connection with the public through his music. He and the Beatles shaped the sixties and were one of the starters of the Hippies. He was connected to many civil rights leaders and peace advocates such as Abbie Hoffman, Bobby Seale, and Timothy Leary. He held many concerts to raise money for charities and to raise awareness about social issues. He expressed himself through his music with songs such as Imagine. The lyrics tell of a perfect war with no complications and nothing to fight over such as countries or religion. Although songs did create some controversy, the youth of the age took their meanings to heart which is how Lennon moved people.
